Surrey Loft Conversions FAQ
We can’t provide a concrete answer to this question as the timescale varies from project to project. However, we aim to get most loft conversions finished within 8-10 weeks. A-Spec will provide you with a timeframe during your initial consultation, and we always promise to have everything completed in that time.
Again, it depends on the specific project and how much work is carried out. Some can cost a lot less than others, but the average is around £35,000. This is a significant investment in your home, but you will see various benefits from it. A loft conversion from A-Spec can increase your property value and provide more living space. Sadly, some lofts aren’t suitable for converting at all. Rest assured that we will do everything we can to come up with a solution for you. Sometimes, your loft may not be able to undergo a traditional conversion, but that doesn’t mean one of our other options won’t work. Everything will be discussed at your consultation.
Our quotes are provided after we’ve consulted with you and been to visit your property. This gives us an idea of how much work needs to go into the project based on your requirements and the set-up of your loft. We also take into account previous experience on similar projects to come up with a fair and accurate quote for our service.
Generally speaking, our quotes are fixed. When we provide you with the quote, we won’t raise the price unless there are unforeseen circumstances, or you ask for more work to be carried out. If either of these things is the case, then we re-calculate and provide a new quote. We never go ahead and do additional work without letting you know how this affects the overall price of your loft conversion.
Absolutely! The team at A-Spec will take care of all elements of this project for you. This includes the design & site survey all the way through to completion. We take control of the full installation and carry out all the building and carpentry work. The only things we don’t do are related to what goes inside your newly converted loft. You have to pick out all the furnishings and items that need to be installed, and our team will handle the rest.
You may consider hiring builders to take care of this project for you. However, working with a specialist loft conversion company like A-Spec is far more advantageous. We specialise in loft conversions and have been carrying them out in the Surrey area since 2008. Yes, there are a few things to take care of. Obviously, you need to consider what your loft conversion will look like and start thinking about flooring options, furniture, etc.
But, more importantly, you have to let your neighbours know of any work you’re carrying out. This prepares them for the disruption, and it helps you remain on good terms with one another. You may also need to get planning permission for some loft conversions, though we will help you with this.
Also, in some cases, you might need a party wall agreement before any work can take place.
This is an agreement that’s in place when two homes connect to one another. So, if you live in a terraced or semi-detached home, then your loft will join your neighbours. The wall that connects the two properties is called a party wall. Essentially, this agreement protects both properties when work is being carried out. We won’t start work on any semi-detached or terraced houses that haven’t got a party wall agreement in place.
As with building regulations and planning permissions, we will help you figure out if one of these agreements is necessary.
It’s easy to understand why you’d think a loft conversion causes lots of disruption in your home. After all, you’re essentially dealing with no roof for a few weeks! Still, the team at A-Spec do all we can to minimise these disruptions. We put a temporary ceiling in place to keep out any bad weather and make it easy for you to carry on living your life. This also prevents any dirt or debris from falling into your upstairs rooms. This ceiling only gets taken away when we’re ready to fit your permanent loft flooring and get the new staircase fitted. All of our work is done from the outside, so you don’t have to worry about our team traipsing in and out of your house!
